Steel Cut Oats – Most Healthy Food to Add to Your Diet
Hi Folks, We are discussing here the easiest and fast method to Cook Steel Cut Oats for your Breakfast, Lunch, or Dinner.
1) Classical Steel Cut Oats Porridge
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup Steel Cut Oats
- 1 Cup of Milk of Choice (Normal Milk, Almond Milk, Soy Milk, etc.)
- 1/2 Table Spoon Oil of Choice
- 1/4 Table Spoon of Salt
- 3 Cup Water
- Toppings: Cinnamon Powder, Dried Fruit like Cranberries or Chopped Dates, Toasted Chopped Nuts like Walnut or Almonds
Method :
- Soak Oats for 20 minutes or Roast Oats or Soak Roasted Oats. (Optional)
- Boil water and milk, add roasted Steel Cut Oats, and Cook for 20 minutes.
- Add salt and serve with your favorite toppings.

2) Overnight Steel Cut Oats with Quinoa
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup Steel Cut Oats
- 1/2 Cup Quinoa
- 3 & 1/2 Cup Water
- 1/2 Table Spoon of Cinnamon (optional)
- 1/2 Table Spoon of Salt
Method :
- Boil Water, add quinoa, steel-cut oats, salt, and cinnamon (Optional)
- Leave the mixture overnight.
- Next morning, reheat the mixture.
- Serve with your favorite toppings – Fresh strawberries, raspberries, goji berries, and peanut butter!
- Store the leftovers in a sealed container in the fridge.
3) Traditional Irish Porridge
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup Steel Cut Oats
- 1 Cup of Milk
Method :
- Soak Steel Cut Oats in boiling water and leave overnight.
- Next morning, add milk and reheat.
- Garnish with toasted nuts, cinnamon, brown sugar, peanut butter, almond butter, honey, fruit or cream.
4) Steel Cut Oats Porridge with Moong Dal
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup Steel Cut Oats
- 1 Cup of Moong Lentil
- 1 Carrot (Sliced)
- 1/4 Cup Broccoli
- 1/4 Cup Cauliflower
- 1/2 Cup Green Peas
- 1/2 Table Spoon of Oil
- 1 Onion (Chopped)
- 1 Potato (Raw)
- 1 Tomato (Chopped)
- 1/4 Table Spoon of Turmeric Powder
- 2 Table Spoon Coriander Powder
- 1 Table Spoon of Red Chili
- 2-3 Cup Water
- Salt to Taste
Method :
- Soak Steel Cut Oats and Moong dal for 30 minutes in water.
- Heat oil, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. After spluttering, add onion, potatoes, and green chili and cook for a few minutes.
- Add broccoli, cauliflower, carrots (or seasonal vegetables of your choice), tomatoes, and salt, and cook for 5 minutes.
- Add powdered spices, soaked moong dal, steel-cut oats, and water. Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles.
- Serve hot with papad, salad, pickle, or raita. Enjoy with your family!
5) Traditional Steel Cut Oats Risotto with Peas
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup Steel Cut Oats
- 3 Cup Water
- 2 Table Spoon Dried Onion
- 1/2 Table Spoon of Celery
- 2 Cup Peas
- 1/2 Cup Parmesan Cheese (grated)
- Pinch of Salt
Method :
- Boil Steel Cut Oats with water.
- Add dried onion and celery, and cook for 25 minutes.
- Add peas and parmesan. Cook for 10 minutes more.
- Serve hot with multigrain garlic bread or any other bread of your choice.
6) Steel Cut Oats Vegetable Indian Upma
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup Steel Cut Oats
- 1/2 Capsicum
- 1/2 Table Spoon Urad Dal
- 1/2 Table Spoon of Oil
- Ginger (peeled and chopped)
- Pinch of Asafoetida Powder (Heeng)
- 1 Green Chili
- Pinch of Turmeric Powder
- 6-8 Curry Leaves
- Coriander Leaves (chopped)
- 1/4 Table Spoon of Mustard Seeds
- 1 & 1/2 Cup Water
- 1 Carrot (Chopped)
- Salt to Taste
Method :
- Boil 1 & 1/2 cups of water, add Steel Cut Oats, and Cook for 10-15 minutes on low heat.
- Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and asafoetida. After spluttering, add urad dal, green chili, curry leaves, and vegetables.
- Add salt, and turmeric powder and cook till vegetables are tender.
- Add cooked Steel Cut Oats, turn off the heat, and toss to combine.
- Garnish with coriander. Add drops of lime juice and serve warm.

7) Steel Cut Oats Pudding
Ingredients:
- 1/2 Cup Steel Cut Oats
- 1 & 1/2 Brown Sugar
- 4-5 Cup Milk
- Few Cashew, Raisins, and Cardamom (as per taste)
Method :
- Boil 1 & 1/2 cups of water, add Steel Cut Oats, and Cook for 10-15 minutes on low heat.
- In a separate pot, boil milk. Add brown sugar, cardamom, and raisins.
- Add cooked Steel Cut Oats and cook for some more minutes.
- Add dry roast cashews to the cooked pudding. Serve hot or chilled as desired.

8) Steel Cut Oats Pongal
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup Steel Cut Oats
- 1/4 Cup Jaggery (Powdered)
- 1 Cardamom (Crushed)
- 10-12 Raisin
- 1 Table Spoon of Ghee or Oil
Method :
- Boil jaggery in a cup of water and filter the puree.
- Add roasted Steel Cut Oats to the filtered jaggery puree and boil.
- Add cardamom.
- Cook for 10-15 minutes or till they are cooked.
- Fry cashews in ghee till golden brown.
- Garnish Pongal with fried cashews and raisins. Serve hot & enjoy.

9) Steel Cut Oats Salty Porridge
Ingredients:
- 1/2 Cup Steel Cut Oats
- 6-8 Curry Leaves
- 1/2 Cup Yellow Moong Lentil
- 1/2 Table Spoon of Turmeric Powder
- 1/2 Table Olive Oil
- 1/2 Table Chili Powder
- 1 Table Spoon of Mustard Seeds
- 1/2 Table Spoon of Cumin Powder
- 1 Table Spoon of Green Chili (chopped)
- 2-3 Cup Hot Water
- 2 Table Chopped Garlic (Optional)
- Salt to Taste
- 1 Table Spoon of Ginger (Chopped)
Method :
- Soak Moong Dal in water for 30 minutes.
- Heat oil and add mustard seeds.
- After spluttering, add green chili, garlic, ginger, curry leaves, turmeric powder, chili powder, cumin, and coriander powder, and sauté for a few seconds.
- Add Steel Cut Oats and moong dal, and sauté for a few minutes again, Add hot water and salt. Pressure cook for 2-3 whistles.
- Serve hot with curd or mint chutney.

10) Steel Cut Oats Chickpea Pulao
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup Steel Cut Oats
- 2-3 Table Spoon Coriander, Chopped
- 1/2 Cup boiled Chickpea
- 1 Table Spoon of Lemon Juice
- 1 Small Onion (Chopped)
- 1/2 Table Spoon of Oil of your Choice
- 2 Green Chili (Chopped)
- Salt to Taste
- 1/4 Table Spoon of Turmeric Powder
- 1 Table Spoon of Red Chili Powder to Taste
- 1/4 Table Spoon of Cumin Seeds
Method :
- Roast Steel Cut Oats in a pan.
- Heat oil and add cumin seeds. After spluttering, add onion and green chili for a few minutes. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder and Steel Cut Oats. Cook for a few minutes.
- Add boiled chickpea and mix well.
- Add water, lemon juice, and coriander leaves. Heat for 5-10 minutes.
- Garnish with Coriander leaves. Serve hot.
11) Steel Cut Oats Laapsi
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup Steel Cut Oats
- 1/2 Table Spoon of Turmeric Powder
- 1 & 1/2 Cup Water
- 1/4 Table Spoon of Saffron (Optional)
- 1/2 Cup Jaggery
- 1/4 Cup Ghee
- 1/2 Table Spoon of Olive Oil
- 2 Table Spoon Fennel Seed Powder
Method :
- Roast Steel Cut Oats for 10-15 minutes with olive oil ensuring there are no lumps.
- Boil water with turmeric powder and saffron.
- Add roasted mix and cook for 15-20 minutes. Remove from heat.
- Add fennel powder and jaggery when cool.
- Once jaggery melts, add ghee and stir well, serve warm.
